Meetings Industry in Crisis: Meetings Mean Business Site Launched
In a travel industry-wide conference call with Roger  Dow, President and CEO, U.S. Travel Association, on Wednesday March 4, he called the indsutry to action and launched the Meetings Mean Business website.  Visit the website at www.meetingsmeanbusiness.com and see what you can do to ensure that our industry's voice is heard loud and clear.

In a previous email to the community on Monday, March 2, Mr. Dow says, "Unlike any time in memory, the travel community is under siege by the media and politicians calling into question the value of meetings, events and incentive travel through playing a game of "gotcha" with companies that have received federal bailout assistance. The ramifications are thousands of cancelled meetings by companies that have - and many more that have not - taken taxpayer assistance.

The U.S. Travel Association and a number of other travel-related associations and companies have been actively engaged in defending our industry and changing the impression on travel's value to business' bottom line. From providing model standards for corporate travel to producing ads aimed at policymakers to help them understand the effect grandstanding on business travel has on jobs, we've been aggressively telling our side of the story. But your help is needed.

In the coming months, lawmakers, opinion leaders and the news media will need to hear from you, and you can serve to personalize and localize these important issues. By taking action now to reinforce the value of meetings, events and incentive programs, we can solidify in the minds of leaders everywhere the critical role these activities play to improving business' bottom line."

What You Can Do To Help:

  • Find 50 ppl and get them motivated to help get our voice heard
  • Visit the website - www.meetingsmeanbusiness.com
  • Send letters to your representatives in Congress
  • Call district offices of members of Congress
  • Sign Keep American Meeting petition - www.keepamericameeting.org
  • Contact your city and county council members and demand they take action
  • Participate in the political Town Hall meetings in your area
